Lookbook: Saint Laurent Paris 'Skinny'

It seems that Hedi Slimane's debut at the newly rebranded Saint Laurent Paris wasn't the resounding success that everyone expected, with a slight media backlash at his expense regarding certain similarities to his work at Dior Homme. Putting that to one side, his diffusion line 'Skinny' is a more casual affair with monochrome leopard prints and denim complimenting the harder leather pieces.

NYFW: My Top Menswear Looks

So New York Fashion Week is over, and with it came some interesting menswear. I have to say, I wasn't blown away by much shown there this season, perhaps due to the relative success of the London Collections: Men. But here are my favourite nine looks from New York. Why 9? Because I like things in three's and I couldn't find 12 looks I felt strongly enough about.

1. Public School - The wide-brim hat is on my wish-list for A/W and will still be wearable come SS'13, teamed with a longline blazer and below-the-knee shorts this look is perfect.

2. General Idea - Skateboarding influences are set to be a big trend for SS'13 and the combination of multiple brights in one outfit stands out for me.

3. Joseph Arnoud - Differing shades of bright blues teamed with simple white trainers give a clean rather than overpowering look that shows attention to detail.

4. J. Lindeberg - The contrast of smart and street in this look is genius and a varsity bomber layered over a suit and tee is effortlessly cool. The shades and up-turned lapels are nice finishing touches.

5. Robert Geller - Slouchy suit trousers are one of my key pieces for AW'12 and SS'13 especially when teamed with a casual shirt and trilby. The smart bottom half compliments the casual top half perfectly.

6. Todd Snyder - The short-suit is something we have become used to, however Snyder has updated this look by including jersey shorts and boots worn with thick socks to again contradict the shirt and blazer.

7. Michael Kors - The slick 60's look is a nice addition to SS'13 trends and Kors has colour blocked superbly, using just enough of a highlight colour to avoid the obvious monochrome references.

8. Perry Ellis by Duckie Brown - I love the full oversized effect in this outfit and the grey-on-grey creates an interesting overall look. Not sure about the hat though.

9. Alexandre Plokhov - The blazer and super-relaxed trouser helps to prevent this outfit from being too obviously gothic and keeps it looking modern, but the styling and accessory choices give it a dark twist.

Autumn / Winter Wishlist: Christopher Shannon Bomber at oki-ni

So guys, it's officially September and that means that Autumn / Winter is officially in full swing. At this time of year I usually spend most of my waking time putting together my A/W wishlist, most of which will never get purchased, but it's always nice to dream. First up is this Christopher Shannon panelled bomber jacket, available at OKI-NI. I think this season I will mostly be wearing monochrome (original I know) and this charcoal number is perfect. With ribbed panelling the bomber has enough interest to ensure a cheaper high street version will probably not be available. Guess I'm gonna have to buy this one then...

LN-CC Autumn / Winter '12 Men's Lookbook

London based concept boutique LN-CC have released their new Autumn / Winter men's lookbook. Featuring designs from Damir Doma, Rick Owens, Balenciaga and Blackmeans, the styling is black-on-black with loose layering and a skateboard edge. Needless to say I want it all...especially the Damir Doma, which is possibly the fairest A/W collection of them all. Check out the site for the full collections HERE.

London Collections: Men Day 3 Highlights

The third and final day of the London Collections: Men was filled with impressive and diverse design talent and showcased the wide range of fashion voices which London has become famous for, but there were a few designers that stood out for me - for the right reasons. J. W. Anderson showed a directional collection that played with the concept of masculine and feminine clothing, and that which is appropriate for men to wear. Floral lace was used for shirts and trousers and came in white, lime and sky blue while suiting was eastern-inspired, worn with nothing underneath. This juxtaposition of menswear versus womenswear has become synonymous with Anderson and was also touched on by other designers this season. It remains to be seen whether we will all be wearing sheer lace next Spring / Summer, but you never know.

Richard Nicoll's must-anticipated first menswear collection was a showcase of his own personal style...in Nicoll's own words 'signature colour and clean lines'. The key word here definitely is 'clean', with sporty separates coming in high-shine materials and tonal colour palettes - the white-on-white looks have a great luxe finish and the Marni-esque yellow raincoat and shorts combo provide a pop of colour. Loose layering in rich royal blues look expensive yet effortless and the only print in an otherwise minimal collection comes from a two-piece in marine blue...dreamy.

Meadham Kirchoff have made a name for themselves in recent seasons for putting on a show...their Spring / Summer '12 womenswear show was an extravaganza of candy coloured nostalgia, and their most recent menswear collection carries on that theme, although with slightly different execution. 'Bedsit chic', if there is such a thing - the collection references 90s street culture and grungy Cobain-esque models were sprawled in their own filth (well, not quite) donning print-clashing fantastical outfits and dip-dyed hair. Meadham Kirchoff also dabbled with feminine touches, introducing skirts for men and coordinating the model's hair to their clothes to create a very unique look.

A refreshingly different collection from Christopher Raeburn displayed his talent for creating interesting and innovative outwerwear, playing with conventions and tradition. Original yet functional, Raeburn experiments with materials to create practical outerwear that will also satisfy men's fashion needs - the silver foil jacket is a standout piece, as well as hybrid parkas and bomber jackets.
