Creative Focus: Lisa Stannard

Over the last few weeks I've been spending a lot of time on FASHION156 and I have been inspired to say the least. They regularly feature the work of creatives in photography, art and illustration and often use emerging talent, showcasing their work to a large audience. So I have decided to do the same. Share and share alike I say. So the first in my Creative Focus series is the fashion illustrator LISA STANNARD. She is one talented lady and has been on my radar for some time. Stannard started her career with a degree in textiles, and has specialised in illustration and print design, working with Lily Allen on the launch of her clothing store Lucy In Disguise and has been commisioned for many freelance projects.

She is most famous for her work with Whitney Port, who you may remember from MTV's The City, and designs prints for her Whitney Eve clothing collection. Her signature style of bright and semi-abstract feminine florals and stylistic portraiture has seen her emerge as an industry-leader in the field of fashion illustration and print design. Below are some examples of her work, from her freelance projects to her most recent work for Whitney Eve. Feast your eyes.

New Ways to Follow

Here's a bit of shameless promotion for you. My Style Ramblings is now on Facebook, and I now use Pinterest, so if you're a fan of the blog then give me a 'like' on Facebook and follow my pins! I'd really appreciate it. See the links to the right!

Kit Neale Autumn / Winter '12

I don't know about you guys, but recently I have been very drawn to all the amazing print coming through in London menswear. From the Autumn / Winter men's shows there was a plethora of print, from Agi & Sam, Matthew Miller and Astrid Andersen - see my post HERE. But one designer that I failed to give a mention to was Kit Neale. Criminal I know, but I'm attempting to make up for it now.

Neale's collection brings retro sportswear to 2012 with bright allotment and floral prints, injecting a dose of femininity to bomber jackets and dungarees. The all-over print look has been big this Spring / Summer but it seems it will be kicked up a notch next season. Wear a matching allotment print suit, or mix it up with clashing prints for maximum fashion points. And the mismatched metallic trainers are a winner too.

Style Icon - Stevie Nicks

With summer festival season upon us, and images from Coachella being flung at us from every direction (me included) the second in my Style Icons series features the queen of rock Stevie Nicks. She epitomised 70s and 80s style with an effortless take on bohemian folksy dressing, and is still an inspiration today. Floaty white dresses and boho headgear are some of the most-worn pieces at festivals today and Stevie was arguably the pioneer of this style. So take a gander at some of my favourite images of the woman herself in her Fleetwood Mac heyday and I also take a look at the effect this style icon had on today's fashion.

Inspiring stuff. Now check out the modern day take on boho style.

And to really get you in the mood, here is some musical accompaniment from Miss Nicks.
